Mayor Jorge Monferrer and members of the municipal government team visited the Kartogroup industrial site as part of the “With My Neighbors” campaign. Kartogroup is a company dedicated to the production of tissue paper (toilet paper, kitchen rolls, napkins, and industrial rolls). Located in Burriana since 2001, it has 220 employees, more than 60% of whom are local residents.

During the visit, the collaboration with Burriana was highlighted: agreements with IES Llombai, solidarity actions during the DANA storm and the pandemic, and new initiatives such as an upcoming partnership with the local soup kitchen.

With a cumulative investment of over 70 million euros in recent years, Kartogroup plans to develop the industrial estate where it is located, which will result in the improvement and modernization of the industrial area.

The municipality of Burriana is now home to a new large-scale solar plant for energy generation, located in the area near Puerto Road.
The plant is owned by the paper company Kartogroup Spain, which manufactures tissue paper, cardboard, and single-use products, and has decided to expand its self-consumption solar farm.
After installing a 1.578 MWp solar farm last year, this new phase, implemented by the energy solutions company Cubierta Solar, adds 1.17 MWp of capacity. It consists of 2,130 photovoltaic modules of 550 Wp each, installed on land adjacent to its facilities in Burriana, next to the existing solar farm. Together, the two phases—producing a total of 2.748 MWp—will prevent 1,531.84 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, with an annual production of 4,398.07 MWh.

A Unique Solar Plant
“This expansion stands out for its highly innovative design”, the company explains, “since it has rarely been used in projects of this nature”. The design involves an east-west orientation, a strategy offering three key advantages for Kartogroup’s energy production, and cost savings. Firstly, this orientation optimises energy generation during the early and late hours of the day, aligning with the factory’s peak consumption times when electricity prices are highest.

Secondly, given the limited space available on the site, this layout maximises production per square metre, boosting the project’s efficiency. Lastly, the east-west configuration provides excellent wind resistance, improving the stability of the installation and reducing structural risks.
